Are you required to report your own partner or family? 'Don't see it as a betrayal'
A woman in The Hague thought she and her husband were quietly watching an episode of Opsporing Verzocht on the couch Wednesday night, when her partner suddenly appeared in the broadcast as a robber. The woman didn't have to think twice and immediately took the husband to the police. Are you obliged to do so in such a case, or is it okay to keep such information to yourself?
The 55-year-old man came into view during a story about a robbery at a jewelry store in Rotterdam-Kralingen. "The coziness at the bank was of course far away at the time and his wife immediately delivered him to us at the station," the police in Scheveningen let us know. "The man is now locked up and the investigation is in full swing."
Investigation programs
The woman is no exception. It happens regularly that people report their partner or family to the police, says crime journalist Mick van Wely. "Not only on the basis of Opsporing Verzocht, but also with regional investigation programs."
