Tim Hofman's lawyer, Maarten Pijnenburg, calls it a "nice ruling" that the court made Wednesday in his client's case. The 42-year-old Chris T. from Breda was sentenced to five years in prison and tbs with conditions for, among other things, plotting the murder of Tim and of a social worker from Oss.
The man was deemed less culpable by the court and included in the verdict the fact that he prematurely renounced his murder plans and furthermore turned himself in during his visit to the BNNVARA premises. "I thought it was a very nice ruling by the court where Tim Hofman's voice and that of the social worker in the case was well taken into account," his lawyer told ANP.
Tim revealed during the substantive hearing that he would like to see T. receive not a high sentence, but proper treatment. "There are obviously a lot of elements that are taken into account in the court's judgment, but I think this is definitely one of them that plays a role," Tim's lawyer said. The prosecution last month demanded 12 years in prison and tbs with mandatory treatment.
"What the prosecution has demanded is justifiable, but you can also follow a different line of thinking," said the lawyer. "Namely that of treating the accused. Those are two turns you can take in law, they are both legally justifiable. The turn taken today is the turn we thought was desirable."
"Tim is trying to move forward as much as possible, work on new projects and not go back to this moment. But of course he will always carry this with him," the lawyer concludes. He thinks his client is in agreement with the verdict, so now he can actually move forward. "I think so, I think he can agree with this," he said.
