Daniel D. (40) stabbed mother to death in front of children: three years in prison and tbs with compulsory treatment

For stabbing and strangling his wife Justina to death, Daniel D. (40) of Rotterdam was sentenced by the court to three years in prison and tbs with compulsory treatment.
The penalty is higher than the requirement of the prosecution. That had asked for tbs only because D. was completely insanity during the crime due to his schizophrenia diagnosed by experts.
For example, the husband was convinced that "gypsies" were after him because of debts. Furthermore, he accused his wife of cheating. About this alleged affair, they would also have argued leading up to that fateful day.
According to the Rotterdam District Court, D. is indeed suffering from a mental illness, but the aggressive outburst on August 29, 2019 did not fit with his paranoid and schizophrenic behavior. In doing so, the Romanian would actually isolate and withdraw. There is therefore no direct connection to the stabbing and strangling of his wife, the judges stated. ''And so the defendant is punishable,'' the verdict sounded.
'Right to life taken away'
Three years in prison and tbs with coercion was thus appropriate, the judges said. ''The defendant deprived her of the right to life. Three young children will have to continue growing up outside the parental home and without the mother's support and love.''
Justina came through eight stabs death. Her neck had also been cut and investigators found strangulation marks on her neck.
The couple's three children partially witnessed the tragedy. They saw Daniel D. lock himself and his wife in their bedroom, after which the daughters, ages 3, 5 and 7, heard their mother scream. They rattled the closed door and then saw blood and a knife from under the door.
Upstairs neighbors, who found the kids at the door of the apartment, alerted the police. Those found the deceased Justina and seriously injured D. He had stabbed himself but survived.
